It is a highly targeted audience, however, Nike already has a large community and would their sponsorship of the site be enough to allow Sneakerplay to remain financially viable over the long term and build a membership base to justify high rates?

Then the exclusivity aspects come into play, as well as authenticity and potential cannibalization of their own communities. Let alone the captial necessary to continue to build features to rival the larger (and still unprofitable) social networks.

I think they should explore sponsorship options, but it would be a balance and would require some innovative thinking to make it potentially work...

Nike would be smart to sponsor Sneakerplay. They bring to companies like Nike or Puma a 'targeted' audience that is already interested in what these companies produce 'shoes'. The bigger quesion may be do marketers know how to leverage these niche sites?

Sneakers? That's too focused...

I belong to a few : MeetUp, MeetIn, and TorontoLinkUp. These are just social networking groups without any niche.
