Tamera, this is a thoughtful critique, thanks for posting it. My initial disappointment and skepticism was turned around in the end, and I could honestly say that this event was a significant and important beginning. But it is clearly just a beginning.

I also echo the concerns of many that while the Mayor is very engaged, Councilors for the most part are not. I certainly hope that some of the audience included political staffers, but I don’t know.

In order to give internal change agents political buy-in for a Gov 2.0 agenda, we need an explicit offering for the politicians.

“Obama 101 for Councilors” anyone? Perhaps Rahaf could make her experience on the Obama campaign available to the politicos as a little honey in return for deeper engagement with the real ideas of Gov 2.0.

I’ll admit that I was pretty hard on the Summit at first, and not without reason: there should have been a lot more thought and planning that went into it in order to make it a truly inclusive and successful event.

In the end, however, I feel that there were definitely a few things accomplished — mainly, we got to see that the City (all the way up to the mayor) is willing to listen and learn.

Now we just have to make sure they’re listening to the right people.

I agree. This wasn’t a FAIL. People are way to negative. I just think that it was probably poorly communicated – especially to speakers about what to expect. Also, if they are going to such trouble to organize – it should be the obligation of the City Councillors to show up and stay!
